From Keese Consulting...
Thought for the day:
"If it is to be, it is up to me."

The
secret to being really great at anything is---What you do after a bad day! Slumps are made out of what you did yesterday. If you check the records of professional
sports teams you will see that most of them lost 33% or more of their games in
that championship season. Do you think
Barry Bonds would have a chance to break the home run record if he was always
worried about his last strikeout? What
you do after a bad day is what will make you a top performer.
High
D’s---Dominant
Directors need to be in charge and make something happen. The D’s tend to have really high highs
followed by really low lows with little or no time spent between. You will improve your effectiveness if you
can remember that things are never really as good as you think they are. By the same token things are never really as
bad as you think they are either. When
you think things are going great, step back and try to take a look at the
long-term picture. When you think
things are going the other way, then focus on the short-term picture. What can I do to make things work right
now?
My
best advice to you is to keep a couple of “lay-ups” on the corner of your
desk. When you feel that wheel starting
to run off into the ditch, pull out one of those “lay-ups” and make something
happen. It doesn’t have to be a huge
big piece of business, maybe they just agree to have lunch with you. Anything, the important thing is that you
made it happen. Your D will be
energized from making something happen and you will be thinking: “Hey, I’ve got
30 minutes. I could do 3 more of those.” And away you go. When you start to feel bad, go to work. Make something happen and it will change your whole attitude in a
blink.
High
I’s---Influentials
need to be optimistic, excited, enthusiastic and upbeat. NEVER EVER LEAVE THE OFFICE ON A DOWN
NOTE. Don’t call it a day until
something positive happens. Have a
couple “friends” that you can call to pump yourself up, revive that
excitement. Probably 90% of your
bottom-line is based on how you feel.
If you are excited and charged up about what you are doing, you will do
it well. If you end the day on an up
beat, end on a positive, it will be much easier for you to bring that
enthusiasm back to work with you in the morning.
Your
strength comes from people. The more
people you have around you the more energized you will become. When you start feeling like the business
isn’t working, it’s time to get out and talk to some people. Join a club that has a Networking Breakfast
or a Business Roundtable. Go to lunch
with someone who is having a great month, spend some time with someone excited
about the business. Enthusiasm is
infectious; it will rub off on you.
High
S’s---Steady
Relaters need to have a plan, a process or a system to follow. When the business bogs down and nothing
seems to work, it is time to get away from the office for a break. Take a day off or a long weekend. You are great at planning and
preparation. If the business isn’t
working for you then there is probably something not quite right with your
plan. Get away somewhere quiet where
there are no interruptions and look at your plan. What is working? What’s
not working? Try to find the weakness
in your plan. Identify the barricade
and try to work around it.
Remember
that you are not the only one with a problem.
Talk to your friends about it.
You will be surprised at how many of them have gone through the same
exact thing you are struggling with.
Don’t try to carry the load by yourself. You have friends that want to help you.
High
C’s---Compliant,
cautious thinkers need a precise, detailed system that allows them to produce
quality results. When things aren’t
going the way you planned, analyze it.
Break your plan down to the nuts and bolts. Take it apart piece by piece.
Where is it coming apart and why?
Identify the problem, adjust your plan to compensate for it and put it
back together. Remember that your
success lies in planning your work and working your plan.
But
what do I do today? If I had the answer to that
I would give it to you. I can’t tell
you what to do, but I can tell you what not to do. DO NOT WORRY about things that you have no control over. When was the last time that all of your
worry changed something or created some different outcome? All you do with your worry is degrade your
own performance even further. Sometimes
you can even cause yourself health problems.
Focus on the one thing that you can control. That thing is you. Go
back to the basics. It is true that you
may not be getting paid as well for your work today but you will.
The
one thing that I know is that we will get past this. If you measure this decline with a calendar or as a percentage
you can make a good case for a bottom just around the corner. Many stocks didn’t participate in the last
big move up in the bull market. For the
same reason many stocks have already seen their lows and won’t participate in
the last move down in the decline.
MAKE YOURSELF A GREAT DAY
